Discussing Google's Helpful Content Update

Discussing Google's Helpful Content Update

In this episode, Alex, Caron, Julie & Dave discuss Google's useful content update. The discussion wanders around a bit but there are some useful, we think, thoughts on the whole "pleasing Google" aspect of digital marketing.

Google's helpful content update first rolled out in August 2022, but they've been adding to it incrementally. The point - it seems - is to promote content that's genuinely useful and demote content that's just adding to the noise.

So far so good, but it's hard to tell whether Google's helpful content update is having the desired effect, and we've also seen a significant influx of enquiries from business owners who aren't sure how they should be responding to the update.

Is it time to delete old and thin content that doesn't add any real value? Or should you be going all out on trying to create as much content as you possibly can? Is it time to look at AI content writing tools or should you run the other way when people tell you they're key to recovering the ground you've lost this August?

And how are you even supposed to tell whether you're losing ground because of this update anyway?

In this episode of Digital Marketing From The Coalface, Julie, David, Alex and Caron set out to answer all of these questions and more – providing a clear roadmap that'll help you grow your digital footprint as we move into 2023.
